Choosing a suitable variant

Pico del Remedio allows progression to be adapted, but selection is not based solely on a variant name or grade. Experience, coordination, fitness and how someone reacts to height help determine which route may provide useful learning and appropriate margin for the group.

The proposed option can be reviewed as more is learned about participants. An easier variant leaves more attention for learning equipment use; an intermediate one requires mobility, communication and lanyard handling appropriate for its greater demands.

What a first-timer learns

A first via ferrata introduces the helmet, harness and energy-absorbing lanyard, changing carabiners and safe spacing. Explanation and practice respond to the group’s experience, without assuming that listening to a briefing is enough to master unfamiliar movement.

Both connectors remain attached to the cable except when passing an anchor, where they are moved one at a time so the other stays connected. Learning this sequence does not prepare someone for every via ferrata, since difficulty, exposure and effort vary between routes.

Height and mobility

Feeling comfortable on a ladder does not always predict how someone will respond on an exposed wall. Explain whether height causes manageable nerves, dizziness or a freeze response that makes movement and following instructions difficult; these experiences matter differently when assessing suitability.

Participants also need to lift their feet onto rungs, maintain stable points of contact and coordinate arms and legs across the outing. Sharing injuries, mobility limitations or concerns helps assess whether Pico del Remedio fits or another available activity may be more suitable.

FAQ

Can this be my first via ferrata?

It may suit someone who exercises regularly and can move and follow instructions comfortably at height. Mobility and any reaction that could prevent progress are also considered.

How is the variant selected?

The proposal begins with the experience, fitness, mobility and response to height you describe. It may change if another option is more appropriate for the group.
